EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – Dr. Herb Peluzzo, East Brunswick Public Schools K-12 Supervisor of Educational Technology, tackled the tough topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education during a presentation for the district’s Parent University held at Hammarskjold School.
“AI is a tool,” began Peluzzo, using an extended metaphor that involved hammers, mustard, and how Ai helped him around the house. He encouraged the audience to find a “silly problem” – like an excess of condiments – that can be solved to solve small problems, as a way to see the technology’s extended use.
Peluzzo, who is also a parent of a young student in the EB schools, described the practical use of AI in composing or condensing emails using Copilot, an AI tool. He cautioned those listening to the presentation to not provide too much private information using AI. Peluzzo also described how to use A to check for unwanted negative tone in e-mails that may not be apparent to the writer. Basically, the message he was sending was to use AI, if you like, to create civil online discussions, especially when educators and parents communicate with each other. The format he used is called Gemini.
